Pick up from your hotel and drive to the Old City to visit Topkapi Palace, the main residence of the Ottoman Sultans, with the elegant four courts. In addition to its historical and architectural interest, it houses extraordinary collections of porcelains, armors, fabrics, jewelers, miniatures, calligraphy and many precious objects and works of art that once belonged to the sultans and their court. We will also get a chance to view the famous Topkapi Dagger which was the theme for the famous movie Topkapi as well as the Islami sacred relics which also include items related to the Old and New Testament. We will then proceed to the famous Hagia Sophia Museum, once the largest church in the world for 1000 years which was converted into a mosque in Ottoman times. After lunch, visit the 17th century Blue Mosque, designed with 6 delicate minarets and a striking blue Iznik tiled interior. Nearby, take a stroll through the site of the ancient Hippodrome, once the sporting ground of chariots and political riots, and see the Egyptian Obelisk, Serpentine Column and Fountain of Wilhelm II. Finally, visit the Grand Bazaar, where you can shop or haggle with local merchants over unusual antiques, colorful spices, beautiful jewelry and richly textured fabrics. Drop off to your hotel. |
